Mother’s Day Naguru Hospital visit

The programme focused on honouring new mothers while reinforcing awareness and support for early postnatal and infant care. It brought together hospital-based engagement, health education, and community access to services, reflecting our continued commitment to maternal wellbeing beyond the pharmacy counter.
The centrepiece of the initiative was a visit to Naguru Hospital, where we engaged new mothers in the maternity ward and distributed curated care packages to support postnatal recovery and early newborn care. The engagement also allowed time for direct interaction with mothers during the early postnatal period.
Beyond the distribution of supplies, the visit was intended to provide presence and encouragement at a critical stage of motherhood, reinforcing the importance of human-centred care alongside clinical support.
Speaking during the initiative, our Managing Director noted:
“The focus this year was on mothers in the earliest days after delivery, where support is most needed but often least structured. It is in this space that our responsibility extends beyond dispensing medicine, but into building systems of care that are continuous, human, and responsive to real community needs.”

Digital platforms were also leveraged as a key channel for maternal health education. A live X Spaces (Formerly Twitter Spaces) session featuring Paediatrician and First Pharmacy pharmacists dubbed “The First 90 Days” provided guidance on the first 3 months of a newborn’s life, focusing on infant feeding, immunity development, and postnatal care for the new mom. This formed part of a broader digital health education strategy.
In addition, the digital ecosystem — including the First Pharmacy mobile app — was used to extend Mother’s Month offers on selected maternal and baby care products, ensuring families engaging online were also able to access practical support during the period.
Further support was delivered through free health checks at the Mulago branch. The activity offered mothers and caregivers basic screenings and pharmacist-led consultations to support early postnatal care and continuity of services.

Sincere appreciation is extended to the staff at Naguru Hospital for their support and cooperation, which made the outreach engagement possible and meaningful.
Recognition is also extended to Mama Power Natural Lactation Formula and Pianta Product Research and Development Ltd, distributors of Mommy’s Lactation Tea, for their valuable contribution to this initiative through products and in-kind support. Their generosity played a key role in extending the reach and impact of the care packages distributed during the outreach.
